Mazzaella laminaroides also known as Luga cuchara is a red alga that inhabits rocky intertidal environments of the coasts of Chile, in the south-central zone.
It has numerous erect stems, thick, fleshy, petal-shaped leaves that arise from a basal disc of fixation.
Commonly used as raw material for the extraction of carrageenan.
